Educational program "Kugelis baked in the oven"

At the Ethnographic farmstead, which is surrounded by forests and lakes, you will taste freshly baked dishes from the oven: kugelis (potato pie) with a fatty bacon and onion sauce. You will hear a story about the most popular Aukštaitija region dishes and desserts. We will also present dishes characteristic of other regions (Žemaitija, Suvalkija, Dzūkija and Mažoji Lietuva), and we will compare what makes each region unique.

The educator will tell you what vegetables, spices, and meat were mostly used in everyday Lithuanian cuisine. They will review what people's diet was like at different times of the year. During the education, you will hear about the dishes most often prepared for Christmas.

*In addition, you will have the opportunity to make žagarėliai yourself and learn the secrets of their preparation.

You can taste the baked žagarėliai while drinking Aukštaitija’s barley coffee or herbal tea.
