Jonėnai Mound

An interesting, recently found and not yet investigated by archaeologists Jonėnai mound is situated on the island of the lake Asveja. When exploring the mound, brushed pottery was found at the site, so it is dated to the beginning of the 1st century. Slopes of the mound are steep, 10-11 m in height, covered with a forest. One of them, the Liudgard slope is covered in mature pine trees, and is situated in front of Vainiku Island, between the mouths of the Baluosa stream and the Giraiciai village. Its length is about 570 m, the distance from the top of the slope to the lake is about 60 m, the height is 20-25 m.
