The Balninkai Regional Household Museum and the Partisan Museum of the B Team of the Great Kova District

The Balninkai Regional Household Museum and the Partisan Museum of the B Team of the Great Kova District

Located next to the glass museum and the picture gallery is the Balninkai region household museum. The museum exhibits household goods, items, and agricultural tools used by this region‘s and the Balninkai area‘s inhabitants in the XVIII – XX centuries. Exhibits collected or donated by local people tell us about the details of lives of the people who have long left this world, their outdoor and household work and their craft. Some items are forgotten, already gone from modern human life, others often remain somewhere in attics. It is here, in the museum, that visitors can look at them, touch them and even try them out, for example, to grind grain with millstones. Familiarity with the museum's exhibits gives visitors the opportunity to newly evaluate and understand the productive purpose and heritage value of the relics of the long-standing peasant culture.

In the same building, the museum of partisans of the B team of the Great Kova district is established. The initiator for the partisan museum‘s founding – docent Kazys Strazdas, founder of the Lithuanian glass museum in Balninkai, member of the Union of Lithuanian political prisoners and exiles, initiator and organizer for the commemoration of the freedom struggles. Together with his wife Javita Emilija Strazdiene, he collected a lot of material and photos about the freedom fighters of the Balninkai region, the Balninkiai Freedom team and the Great Kova District B team, thus laying the foundations for the establishment of the museum. The material and photos collected by K. and J. E. Strazdai are exhibited in an authentically furnished partisan hideout. After discovering the secret mechanism that opens the door to the hideout, and upon entering, visitors will feel the spirit of the era of partisan battles, and pictures of those who defended the freedom of Lithuania will silently watch them from the exhibition stands.
